While Bolivia is the number one producer of quinoa and exports over 85% of its Royal grain, Peru is the world’s number one consumer of quinoa and exports about ten percent of its local production. And the best quinoa available in Peru is produced by COOPAIN Cabana, according to the judges at the International Gastronomic fair Mistura in Lima, who granted the “Silver Pepper” award to Mr. Simeon Genaro Miranda V., who is part of this 500 member cooperative that grows specific ecotypes of white, red and black quinoa in the Cabana province in Puno. “ We are a ten year old group of producers committed to offer the best quality quinoa to reach foreign markets and this award has encourage our members to improve each day our production and processing capacity”, said Nancy Cuno, president of ASCENPROMUL/COOPAIN Cabana.  The cooperative owns its processing facility for  quinoa and has organic, fair trade, kosher, HACCP and GMP certifications. COOPAIN Cabana will be part of PeruNatura in stand  374.
