Q-Organic won the Award for “The Most Unique Product 2015,” at the Nordic Organic Food Fair, November 1-2 in Malmö, Sweden. The Peruvian raw organic cacao nibs with yacon syrup introduced by the Danish firm stood out in a field of strong competition. Industry visitors and experts attending the fair were asked to vote for the most innovative and outstanding products from the natural and organic industry on display.

“It is a great honor to win the prize for the most unique product at a fair where there are so many interesting products,” said Marisol Gamarra, co-founder of Q-Organic. The taste of the cacao nibs, which are rich in antioxidants, sweetened with yacon syrup, which is prebiotic, caught the visitors’ attention. “We chose the cacao from Satipo, (Peru) because it’s low bitterness offered a perfect match with yacon syrup that has a round taste, ” Ms. Gamarra said.

Besides the award-winning raw cacao nibs, Q-Organic offers other high-quality organic certified food products from Peru, Gamarras’ home country. The line includes organic coffee, chocolate, fruit juices, superfoods, and snacks.

Ms. Gamara and her husband Frank Duch, who is from Denmark, founded the company under the name Q-Kaffe and Kakao. They later changed the name to Q-Organic to allow them to incorporate a wider range of products.

The young entrepreneurs met in the jungle of Peru in 2000. And even though they come from different cultures, they found they had a lot in common.

“We dreamed of starting a company that could reflect our love for nature, people, and quality – a company that could tie together our Scandinavian and Latin American cultures,” said Ms. Gamarra.

Organic coffee and cacao became the core of their business as they already had experience and knowledge from these industries. Gamarras’ grandfather worked in the production of coffee and tea; her father distributed machinery to coffee and cacao producers. ” I grew up in this environment,” said Ms. Gamarra.

The quality of the products offered by Q- Organic is a direct reflection of the way the ingredients have been farmed. “We travel a lot and visit the growers. We have established a relationship with them that we could not have done if we had products from different countries,” she added. “We believe that the farmers’ hard work and affection for the environment reflect the high quality and rich taste of the products.”

In the future, they expect to add new products. “We get inspiration from our customers’ needs, and we love to put together products and customize them to the Scandinavian taste,” said Ms. Gamarra. Q-Organic also offers a private label service for businesses in and outside of Denmark.

This year the company exhibited at BIOFACH in Nuremberg, as part of the Organic Denmark pavilion. Participation at the fair provided them an opportunity to start exports to Italy, Germany and Norway. “As part of Organic Denmark we have established a network in the food industry,” said Ms.Gamarra. “We have big expectations for BIOFACH 2016, where we will present new products and look forward to meeting our customers and suppliers.”
