The Organic & Natural Beauty Show 2013 took place 2-3 June at the ExCel exhibition and convention centre in London. The trade show was the first of its kind in London to offer organic and natural product creators a venue in which to promote their lines directly to consumers and wholesalers.

Shorex, a specialist in finance and life style events organization company based in London, initiated the show. The company’s co-founders, Philippe Gelin, Inna Iranyi and Ilona Iranyi, wanted to create a unique setting for people who desired natural alternatives for their skin and beauty care. While there have been local events focusing on organic and natural food in the past, none of these only featured beauty products.

Consumers are developing greater awareness about the ingredients in products such as soaps, shampoos, moisturisers, and make up – items they use daily. They are looking for healthy alternatives that avoid the use of parabens, sulfates, harmful chemicals and synthetic ingredients that can be absorbed into the body. Retailers, in response to changing consumer tastes, are increasing their organic and natural product offerings.

Sixty-nine exhibitors, representing products and brands from around the world, attended the show. Nearly two-thirds of the exhibitors were British. Producers from several other European countries, such as France, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Ireland, Austria and Spain were also present. A few exhibitors even came as far away as South Africa, Senegal, and Brazil.

Highlights of the show included emerging product trends, new companies, and an awards ceremony. Several presenters shared products that reflected the new trend of using a single moisturizer for skin and hair. These moisturizers are sourced from natural pressed oils, such as argan, avocado, and sesame oils. The show also marked the debut of Eden Cosmetics, and Essentially Natural to the organic beauty world. Natural Health magazine held its first official ceremony to present its Natural Health Beauty Awards to nominees in nearly
50 categories.

Nearly 5000 visitors attended the event over its two days. Showex plans to annually host the Organic & Natural Beauty Show.
